Johannesburg – A group of six suspected gang members, attempting to exact revenge for the death of one of their own, were arrested in Tsakane on the East Rand on Saturday, authorities said.
Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago, said the rampage followed the fatal assault of a gang member who is alleged to have previously broken into a Tsakane home.
The arrested included one female and five males who were found in possession of an assortment of weapons including pangas, knives, garden forks and spades.
The suspects, aged between 16 and 24 years old, were detained at Tsakane Police Station and charged with public violence, Kgasago said.
“A docket of arson was also registered, with investigations underway to identify and locate those responsible,” he said.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
