In theory one could destroy the license plate recognition (LRP) cameras and RFID etag readers on gantries quickly and efficiently without any protest or physical take-down.

A high powered directional Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) generator could fry all circuitry in these devices silently and efficiently. One could simply mount it on the back of an old bakkie, drive bye and zap away.

EMP generators can produce pulses of electromagnetic energy that can readily destroy the sensitive electronics in computers and microprocessors. Destabilized LCR circuits can produce multi megawatt pulses by using an explosive wire disruptive switch. These high power pulses can be coupled into antennas, conic sections, horns etc for very directional effects.

Research is currently being undertaken around the world to disable vehicles at a distance thus avoiding dangerous high speed chases. The police could attach these to their vehicles. The trick is to generate a high enough power pulse to fry the electronic control processor modules without creating collateral damage to unintended targets.

Interesting indeed.

Lollies, Im all for out the box thinking but all the cars behind you will get their electronics toasted as well.

Do we have any qualified electronic engineers among us, and is a device like this able to be made from local parts. What are the costs involved?
Probably a few months worth of your E-Toll charges ;)

Mettchies and petroolll is cheapa

Ja, this is a bad idea...

You might be hitting other innocent passers-by.

And once they cotton onto which vehicle is causing the damage, then you are going to be in for a world of hurt.

This is not at all legal, and therefore this thread should be closed because it advocates breaking the law.

They'll easily identify you unless you wear a mask and drive a stolen vehicle...

If push does come to shove, I would far prefer to see the gantries torn down by a seething crowd of mixed races. That would send a much stronger message to the bastards in government.

Amen to that, kinda like the unforgettable images forever scorched in peoples minds of Saddam Husseins statue being torn down.

Would that not be a sight to behold.

We could break out our flip flops and slap the ***** out of those gantrys when they fall too.

Would be safer to shoot it with a bazooka

how about some of those high powered hand held lasers, pedestrian could just zap the cameras

Walk up to gantry at 3 in the morning. Hacksaw it down like a tree yelling timber. Walk away. Profit.

We need some Capetonian truck drivers to travel the toll-roads. Let's see if the gantries are built as well as Cape Town's bridges...

I like this idea. And when the gantries are all fooked, taxis would be next on my list.

Silly idea to use an device to destroy the electronics. Won't just kill the gantries - but other cars too, cell phones, etc. No thanks.

Not if it's a directed beam

Seeing as the Chinese are Africa's "friends" and that they didn't get the tender for e-tolling (considering they're constructing the roads all across Africa), we really should start a petition for them to come and test out their new EMP pulse-bomb equipment here.

"Harro...we just brew up a gantry on Maribongrwe. Where is the next rocation, prease...?"
