Gantry Killer

Not if it's a directed beam

That's irrelevant. I don't trust average Joe to use such a device, correctly nor responsibly. Silly idea and the very notion should be put to bed.

On the other hand - we don't need to resort to such tactics. All we need to do is not buy eTags and make SANRAL chase us for every cent.

I'm not average joe :D

He's right. An average Joe has more hair...

norrafok boet. Must I post a pic of my chest?!

Tander I'd gladly **** up the electronics of about 80% of the quantums I see.

Imagine the negative publicity MyBB would receive if someone googles this and lands here... :wtf:

Mods? Admins?

edit: Oh, and I hate e-tolls as much as you guys do! :)

So would I. Saying it and doing it is a different matter...

Also - lets for a second assume that someone decided to attach the gantries in this manner. You drive by with a car with no plates and a mask on... one zap and SANRAL don't know why the system has gone down.. you take the next off ramp and disappear. Few weeks later pick another gantry and do the same... different car... different time.

How do they catch you?

The main problem here is that you can compare SANRAL to SARS. The state has a way of being very efficient if there is money involved.
Short of a coordinated campaign to destroy the entire infrastructure and intimidate all staff - this thing is here to stay. (Which I'm not suggesting, its illegal and means more than 3 South Africans will have to cooperate on something they can't tell anyone about.)

EM Pulse gun will do the trick but it is expensive and impractical. A laser beam is much cheaper and efficient. A laser pointer won't do it though. Not permanently! A 'modified' laser pointer is the way to go. In tests I have done with my safety camera at my house, a laser pointer's lens and focusing system combined with the laser diode from a old dvd writer, did the trick. It will destroy the sensitive cmos imaging sensor, for good. But be carefull! Use safety glasses when powering up. Even indirect exposure from a shiny surface, can f.up your eyes.

Can you tell me more about this modified laser you speak of? Sounds very interesting.

And what can a sniper (not me) do from a distance?
Just asking...

Ja, this is a bad idea...

You might be hitting other innocent passers-by.

And once they cotton onto which vehicle is causing the damage, then you are going to be in for a world of hurt.

This is not at all legal, and therefore this thread should be closed because it advocates breaking the law.

Including your own vehicle

Depends if you use incendiary ammunition or not (not sure where you will find that, but that's besides the point).

What's really needed is to somehow create a demand for the cameras and all this equipment. We have possibly the worlds best cable thieves in this country. Just need to divert their targets to the gantries.

We can always ask the DA...

Well most on here agree they will not pay e-tolls which would also be breaking the law - as well as revolving plates etc.

I don't think anyone would seriously consider an EMP generator to be a viable option.

I think about an EMP gun every time I see a taxi.

If I could guarantee a way to target it, and not accidentally kill some passenger with a pacemaker, I'd be firing it off all the time.

As for the gantries, even if your EMP focus is not great, you could just point up. That way you would not affect anyone else as you fry the cameras.
