Gantry Killer

I have a good idea, Mythbusters used this special material that blocks any signal of a device within the material, so if you wrap the tag in this material it should not charge (you money).

Or is this not how E tolls work...IE it would be the same thing if you had no credits in the tag??

Silly idea. That would be the same as having no tag in your vehicle, so you will get a whopping bill at the end of the month. Why buy a tag then?

No that won't work. As the poster above stated - you might as well have no tag in the car at all then. When you pass an eToll gantry, the cameras pick up your plates and your face. Then if you have no eTag - you just get billed the normal, manual way.

My local scrap dealer is willing to buy any copper cable in the gantries and I'll pay cash for any camera equipment..

Hmm. Stupid Question, but where are the tags placed in the cars? Against the windscreen?
What would happen if someone walked past and say... placed a small emp generator against it and fried it?
Imagine if someone walked though a parking lot and did this to a bunch of cars, disabling the tags. The administrative nightmare to sort that mess out after the first billing month would be massive.
Not that I would know how to make a emp generator from a Disposable Camera or if there is a Wikihow about it?

Um, no, the gantries would just fall back to taking numberplates and you would be manually billed, and then you'd have to go and pay for a new tag on top of that.

Thought as much. Now imagine 400 + tags all stop working. As far as they are concerned its a manufacturing fault. The bureaucratic nightmare on their side to sort it out and reinburse people would be massive...

bwahahahahahahahahha..... oh wait, did I just read reinburse(sic) [reimburse]...... In a thread linked to SA government managed finances......

Exactly. Whichever way it goes - SANRAL will be screwed or sued. (Btw - I never knew how dependent I'd become on autocorrect untill I had to use IE 9)

Ye my "right click on red squiggle" motor reflex is quite solidified by now. I just hate getting the US spelling of anything with a Z sound in it. Especially because that is probably the only American change to English that I would agree with. But I must hate and rebel against everything that America do out of principle. So Ostracised they will remain.
