Looking for medical aid gap cover.

Would appreciate recommendations based on personal experience (and who to avoid based on personal experience too.)

Thanks

hi. I have had Sanlam gap cover for years now. when my wife gave birth, the first time the shortfall was R19k and the second time over 30k and they paid me out both times in full. I currently pay just over R400 for myself, wife and 2 kids

Been using a Liberty Group co ZESTLIFE for 22 years now
No hassles, efficient and always paid what was due
Rates are quite reasonable. Pay R620,00 for the two of us.

I would avoid Discovery gap cover. just rubs me the wrong way that a Medical aid will sell you a product to cover the shortfall that they themselves don't pay. Why not just increase premiums by a few hundred and give full cover

i was previously with zestlife when they only had 1 option, when they changed it and made the same option more expensive and made a new package with less benefits at the same price, I moved to Sanlam

Got the discovery insurance (think its coastal saver) + gap, paid out in full for one incident i had this year. Comparing what the specialists charge vs discovery medical aid rate it would have been quite a sever hit to my finances if i never had gap. Think it does have an annual limit of somewhere between 150-190k a year though but still very thankful i took it.

Agree its bad to have gap cover on top of medical aid but seems pretty standard now. Heard its better to have it with someone else but given the ease of discovery medical aid automatically submitting any unpaid amounts to the GAP policy the ease of use is pretty good and makes me lazy to change it to someone other than discovery.

Avoid recommendations with: "I've been with XYZ, they are absolutely amazing, but I have never claimed"
