Hi there

Is anyone else that is currently connecting to the Gardens Centre Tower experiencing a degradation of access speeds and a loss of signal strength?

Please advise.

Gardens Tower Speed Fluctuating

Surely there must be someone on the forum that is connecting to the Gardens tower? Please let me know if you are experiencing a fluctuation of speed / access.

Thanks

I am connected to that tower , all seems well. did 3 speeds test and the avg is about 780kbps

Michael try upgrading your firmware if you haven't already regardless of when you bought the modem. Firmware upgrade fixed all the problems you mentioned for me.

Thanks for the assistance...

Thanks for the assistance, but I have tried just about everything. Firmware is updated, 18db flat panel antenna, optimised NIC's for the iBurst service. Signal -72, less than 1.5 km away from the tower, LOS, etc.

Have changed my UTD, moved my antenna, used a different PC, however the moment the tower is starting to experience the slightest degradation in service I get affected severely, my access speeds plummet.

It takes iBurst at best two to three days to pay attention to the fault and it’s been happening for the last 5 weeks!

I'm fed-up with them.

Try running a continual ping on www.iburst.co.za
ping www.iburst.co.za -t -l 1

Or open your iburst connection click status and get the server ip and replace www.iburst.co.za with this

-t for continual pings
-l 1 so set the size of the ping as small as possible to save bw (even though the normal 32bytes will only take about 10mb a month)

Well there wont be an outcome so to speak if its continual. You can also run it using the "-n" command.

You write -n followed by how many pings you want. You could just make it -n 400 and then you will be able to copy the results here and see if there are any lost packets without watching it all the time.

BTW, www.myadsl.co.za is a much better ping for cape town based iBursters. I just mean better in thats its lower and usually more stable, doesnt actually matter what you ping really.

The idea is not for an outcome (which btw can be acheived by running in a cmd window and hiting ctrl c)

The idea is to increase the modem's presence to the tower by continually sending and receiving information.

The network status on the Iburst website reports no issues. This is probably a problem on your side. Is your MTU set to 1352?

...and the outcome is positive.

Hi seburn

Thanks, it seems to do the trick, haven’t lost connectivity at all. My signal reports -58 to -64 via EyeBurst and when there is no congestion on the tower, I receive speeds as reflected below via the Telkom site. (Doubt its accuracy) However, between the weekday hours of 10 am to 4:30 pm my internet connectivity grinds to a complete halt.

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:
• Download time: 2.724 seconds
• Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
• Estimated line speed: 1497.8 (kilobits/second)
• Estimated line speed: 183.6 (kiloBytes/second)
