Garmap

I tried the *123 thing and I got a message saying call 1555. Lady on the line said Garmap isn't available to new subscribers at the moment, but it probably will be in the future. They are apparently having some problems with it.

Have the same, received sms that it is suspended.

Thanks MTN for leaving us dedicated users, lost again... you know what you can do with that "client care" of yours....

Here is my experience on the MTN/Garmap issue whereby subscribers are informed of the suspension of the service.

When I got my 3 new 9700's, I tried *123*18#, message came back saying navigation service is suspended. Called MTN customer care (data services) and requested the service on both units, as I essentially paid for them, right? A few days later (and with the help of the friendly guys at Garmap) it is installed on both our Berries and it is really a fantastic navigation solution, superior to anything else I have seen before on a mobile device.

Call 1555, insist on activating your number. They need to send Garmap a message whereby MTN informs Garmap that your number does qualify for the navigation offer. MTN is a large firm, it takes a couple of days and a few calls but it will eventually happen. If you call 1555 try and speak to Sebe, she has helped to get me through the process and she was also assisted by the Garmap team.

Hope this helps someone.

Trying to finalise this and the folk at Nashua Mobile still can't confirm whether BB Torch on MTN currently has the 2year free Garmap subscrition. Would really appreciate feedback from someone that's recently got a new BB and on MTN...

I had issues getting it from mtn so just got it directly from the garmap website which verified my number etc. I think it was garmap.wisepilot.mobi. Can't remember exactly

Thanks for your help. Actually called Garmin today and learned that the 2yr free contract offer ended in Nov'10 but they still do the deals for MTN 9800s.

This sucks, I just checked properly on mines and it says 60day trial. It's an awesome application but I'm not gonna pay over R400 for it

I have used the MTN Garmap app for some time now, and find it annoying sometimes as it picks the most undesirable routes, no matter what route preference I choose. I have raised the issue with Garmap support, but have not heard anything back yet. It was a nice "freebie" but I agree, not worth paying R400 for it. Google Maps works better, and best of all its free.

PM me if anyone needs the contact details of the Mobile Product Manager at Garmap SA in charge of these activations. They are actually quite helpful over there.
