Hello,

I need some assistance please.
Any idea where I can download the latest Garmin Road safety files.
I see the Garmap website has been canned as of 1 January.

I have been using the independent SA 'Community Generated Road Safety POI's' ever since Garmap stopped supporting them.

Download wither the WAV or MP3 versions, depending on which version your Garmin GPS supports - most modern versions will use the WAV format.

Also - the 'Additional Downloads' link on their home page has all the necessary PDF Manuals & extra software to assist you in setting up the required file structure on your PC / laptop, in order to generate the monthly database updates yourself.

I have added the Toll Booth warnings (for light motor vehicles) as well as the GFIP e-Toll Gantry alerts to my database (these are optional) - also the newest databases do NOT include traffic police alerts any more, so I just use an old one I still have on my system.

The main monthly Road Alert database file can also be downloaded here:

This also contains all the required files you would require to generate the monthly Road Hazard Database (RHD) files.

You will need the latest Garmin POI Loader software to compile the database - here is the link to it:

Here are 3 screenshots of the file structure needed for the Garmin POILoader to compile the Road Hazard Database correctly:








You MUST also make sure that you have first copied the 'sox.exe' file to the POI Loader folder BEFORE trying to compile the RHD.

Great stuff - glad I could help you out to get the RHD set up on your PC & Garmin GPS!!

To test if it works OK, do a trip in 'Simulation Mode' and see if the alerts work as expected.
