Where do I get it? Apparently, Garmin is now charging for the data, but there's a more complete community compiled version on the GPS users forum. How do I use that? It used to be four files, now it's 50, with .wav files and .mp3s and **** knows what else! I just want the GPS to gong when I come to a "road hazard". Does anyone know where I get those files? I've got a Nuvi 200. Thanks.

You can register on the community based forum, and get the "original" type downloads from them.

Garmin has switched to the Cyclops system, where you get a free 30 day trial, and after that you have to pay a fee to download their data.
The newer Garmin data is not as accurate as the older type of Road Safety Data.

My Nuvi 310 is on its last legs. When it calls it a day, I'll be switching over to Tom Tom. I've had it with Garmin.

Call me an idiot, but I can't find it. There's this link, but that's for .MP3 data and .WAV data. I just want the old data that set off a gong.

Garmin's got free traffic (not on my old Nuvi) and easily pirated maps. That'll cost you a grand a year with Tom-Tom, which would increase my per KM costs by 20%. Tom-Tom's got a better interface than my Nuvi, and better traffic (or so I've heard), but I think the Garmin interface has been improved.

I've got a Nokia as well, with traffic and online searching and Google imagery, so I won't be buying more superfluous toys any time soon.

You are right. The link I supplied was for the "new" Garmin forum.
The link you have is for the data you are looking for.
Go to the centre (MP3) table, use the drop down list, and select the "Road Hazard Data September" file.
You will need to extract the data using WinRar or something similar.
From there, you can use Garmin POIeditor to make any changes you want.
Finally, using POIloader, you transfer the files to your unit.

To make it easy for myself, I have a sub-folder in a Garmin folder, that I name with the relevent month.
Using PoiLoader, I point to the sub-folder, and it sends all the data required to the unit.

It sounds complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it takes less than 2 minutes to get everything loaded.
