Tonight I saw a number of FB posts of people converting their petrol generators to gaa generators via some kit which is selling at R1700.

I have a couple of questions....

1. Is this safe?
2. Some people claim they can run their petrol generator for 9 hours at around R600. But on gas, the whole day for R70. Is this true?

1. Yes
2. No

I do know in USA, they have Generators that can switch between gas and petrol easily. But there is a loss in power.

I have seen on Takealote last night that there are some here in SA too.

My big question as to price - gas vs petrol still hangs though. Will there be a big difference in price? A guy on FB claims it costs him R70 for a day in gas vs R300-R600 in petrol.

Any petrol engine can be converted to do this.

Yes, that is what they said on FB. It won't work on diesel. But, I would much rather prefer buying a generator already capable of using both. That being said, I would not replace mine if the savings are minimal. I will, however, if the savings are really as big as some claim. Hence the reason for my post to see if someone here is already doing it.

The beauty of gas is you can make your own.

Gas is cheaper on the same runtime due to price differences and a marginally lower running usage

There's a formula for x kg per hour per 100HP of generator engine if memory serves

More convenience of huge cylinders though than refilling fuel and less deposits on plugs
