Hi Guys,

I have a solar geyser (with an electrical element) for hot water in my house. The problem is in winter, with the cold air temps; the geyser needs electricity to heat up.

I have been considering getting a gas geyser to supplement my solar geyser. Apparently, they work well together.

Has anyone done this setup and does it work well? Which geyser would you recommend?

Yes they do work well together.

Have a solar geyser since 2011 and added gas about 5yrs ago. Best thing I ever did. No eskom required.

My setup uses a simple temperature valve to divert the luke warm solar geyser water during cold winter months to the gas geyser where it gets boosted back up to 60° or whatever temp I select.

My gas geyser is a Dewhot 16l constant temp.

So I won’t need the fancy forced fan geyser

Make sure you get one of the newer models that can adjust the gas based on the water temperature on the outlet. That way in summer it will use very little gas as the water is already up to temp from the solar geyser.

Off topic - is there such a thing as a gas powered freezer? TIA

How would I know if it has the feature?

Its best to make sure in the specs but its usually "constant temperature" and "fan forced" that have the ability to set the outflow temperature. Some call it temperature at tap etc.

And how much gas do you use a month in winter? Is the fan forced more efficient?

Can anyone recommend a gas geyser installer for the Paarl/Wellington area?
