Hi ,

We replaced our gate with a solid one

Now the reception off the remote is terrible from the outside.

Any ideas how to extend the aerial for better reception

What gate motor, receiver, and remotes are you using?

Solid steel/metal?
Motor placement is determined by available space and the best location for power feed etc. So, Step 1, check or get the installer to make sure the antenna is properly located in the motor box for optimal reception. Only then should you consider extending the antenna cable outside of the motor box. Or, find a remote way of controlling the gate via an app on a mobile device.

weird that it made such an impact, whilst the gate might be solid there are multiple gaps, between the wall, under, over etc

Does the motor have an integrated receiver or an external one? what motor, what receiver, what remotes?

I would check if the current receivers aerial wire is routed sufficiently and fix it if it isn't. Otherwise I would just go get a long range receiver of a compatible brand, for example my sherlo remotes work with the sherlo 150m receiver.

thanks ,will have a look this afternoon , think the antenna is a little black box , with a thin wire coming out , not a new gate motor

Yes, that would be it. Make sure the antenna wire is not pushed down into the housing instead of on top and is as straight as possible at the top.

Then you might have to experiment a bit to see where it operates the best. make sure the remote you use has a new battery or at least, that the battery is in good condition.
