Gateway issues on router

Whenever I change my dsl login details, the gateway on the router's VC seems to just stop working for half an hour to an hour

It just shows up as 0.0.0.0

Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

It is not normal.

At least specify the router model. What ISPs do you use for the PPPoE ?
Maybe it is normal for your router.

Have you tried power cycling the router after changing?
