Gauteng's deputy provincial police commissioner responsible for policing, Major General Tommy Mthombeni, was on Thursday robbed of his service firearm and personal belongings in a brazen armed robbery while visiting a store in Midrand.

Mthombeni was with a friend at the Link Shopping Centre, Unit 12 Northern Dry Cleaners in Midrand when he was accosted by two men who demanded that he hand over his belongings to them.

The police statement reads:

On 2023 /01/26 during the morning at about 11h56 the complainant was at the Link Shopping Centre, Unit 12 Northern Dry Cleaners in Midrand. He was fetching his clothes as he was preparing to attend the National Police Day. The male person by the name of Vengai Pambeni was busy helping him over the counter. All of a sudden he heard the cocking of a firearm at his back. He was then instructed to give all his belongings. While he looked back he saw two (2) x a/males armed with pistols pointing him.

Welcome to day to day living in sunny SA...

This is what happens when the police force is so weak and pathetic and the moron Bheki Cele is so weak and cowardly that thieves rob cops.

no bottom cops?

He probably was in a police uniform, which was why they knew he had a gun on him. IMO in SA cops should always go out in pairs as they are a vulnerable target.

Normal firearm owners don't have this issue because they conceal carry (unless of course you wear a shoot-me-first idpa vest), so most crooks don't know you can send them to the great shebeen above.

No amount of training can ever counter having a gun put to the back of your head. Only real recourse is to have cops go out in pairs.

Why oculd this not happen to someone more deserving *cough* Bheki Cele *cough*?

Its ok guys...

The cops will spare no resources to find these 2 cretins, and make sure they are very quickly charged and brought to justice... Can't have a senior "elite" being threatened like this, it is just not on...
Oh and the VIP budget will be double this year, cos its getting dangerous out there apparently.
