Gauteng - What to do with incorrect fine?

Hi,

Does anyone know the process for dealing with a traffic fine where a camera took a picture, but some illiterate at the traffic dept read 2 obvious characters in the image wrong and lodged the fine against the wrong person?

EDIT: Nevermind that the vehicles don't even match eachother at all between the one in the picture and the one they fined.. :rolleyes:
 
Either write them a 'Dear John' letter, or bin it. Not much else one can do. Generally people sweat way too much about fines. Mine have over 40 years only ever been filed in the bin.

They know they guy in the photo won't pay so they try alternatives.
 
Ignore it, like you should've done in the first place..

I was once given a fine for deriving faster than I should..

How did you ever avoid those road blocks with the camera where they arrest you and confiscate you car? I once saw a long line of people waiting for lifts cause they wouldn’t give them their keys back.

Pm me so I can explain to you that you cannot be arrested for an outstanding fine, nor can you car be confiscated......but I think it had been said ad nauseam on this forum. You can only be arrested for contempt of court where you had a court date and did not pitch...NEVER for a camera or regular fine which does not have a court date.

This. The people being arrested are being arrested for contempt of court, NOT for not paying their fines. A fine is just an allegation of wrong-doing. Until such time as you admit your guilt by paying it, or a court finds you guilty, it remains nothing but an allegation of wrong-doing which the state (not you) has the burden of proving.

I had something similar a few years ago with a written fine. I was guilty, but there was a mistake on the written fine. I went to speak to someone at the offices where I had to pay the fine, they referred me to someone in an office. I explained myself and he took my fine, wrote on it and stamped it.

Done, dusted. took me about 10 minutes.

Drinking while deriving is a serious problem, just look at that guy with a house full of unwanted goods :ROFL:
