Gautrain Strike Over

No work, no pay.

So, in other words, they have lost three weeks pay for an 8% increase? So looking at their annual income they will only be getting something like 3% more because of the loss of income for the strike?

Hey not everyone has got common sense like that!

Will give them a try tomorrow - was nervous today so drove and paid for it

Got on my usual crack-of-pre-dawn bus this morning.
No problems except that we broke down on West Street:D

Driver tells me the buses are mostly sorted already.

If I was paid every time this argument was raised....well, I would be rich. When 16 hour working days were the norm in England in the early days of the industrial revolution, with terrible conditions to boot, the workers formed unions and took collective action which included striking and the destruction of property. I am sure they faced risk to their employment, safety, and short-term finance in doing so, but they were not thinking in simply 8th grade arithmetic terms like you are here. There are bigger issues at stake, like human rights, justice, mental health etc.

This capitalist rhetoric of "just work, it's better than nothing!" is sad, very sad. Glad the gautrain is back in action and power to the workers.

..not to mention that all of us bourgoisie owe the concept of a weekend to the unions.
Which is why I still have time for them, as part of a much bigger picture.

Been nothing wrong with it even during the strike. In fact, for us using it from Centurion to Sandton, it was better.

Oh well, was good while it lasted. :p

Problem was - it did not go to Hatfield. And then it only went to Pretoria - with a bus to Hatfield. Not reliable if you need to be there at a specific time.
