Hi guys,

So there are massive talks and works being done on the Gautrain route. The new routes they're supposedly building are going to land very, very close to where I need to go for work every day, so I would like to know if there are any information anywhere available that might state the ETA for these routes to be completed? From what I understand, they are building a new train track to head out to Fourways Mall (just around the corner from me), which means I'll be able to take the train again from Pretoria (where I stay) to Fourways (basically to Monte Casino). I have no idea on the timelines though. I heard people talking about end of 2018 to have it all completed, but to be honest the way I look at it there's no way they are going to meet this deadline.

Is there someone who maybe knows more? I saw an article the other day that promised information, but then you had to sign up to some online news source just for that one article so I decided "screw it"...

would be awesome if they expanded the gautrain,

problem, like everything else is where will the money come from?
world cup is long ago over,

They started planning the new routes about 2012

ETA? 10 years, at earliest.

This might help.

Gautrain is one of the better run quasi-government institutions, but even so, I would put any new routes as being 3 years away at the earliest.

And check the map on that link - the new routes might not do what you think.

Well, yay. I guess I missread the finalizing of the Fourways Mall upgrades with the Gautrain ETA. Guess I won't be taking the train again soon anytime.

Alright, a year later, Fourways Mall has opened and the mall mentions that it'll hopefully be the home for the new Gautrain station in the "near future". Does anyone have any ideas more or less when that "near future" might be? It's walking distance to my office, and I would love to train again a bit...

Come back next year, but don't hold your breath. I don't forsee them making any more routes active for at least a couple of years.
They have been talking about getting more train cars for more than 5 years now, and still nothing has happened. That should give you some idea of how "quick" they are.

Yeah I've seen the actual on-ramp and everything to the station seems to be built already. They're just waiting for the rails at the mall. The new cars are apparently due for end of 2019, or something like that, but it's the railway that's not moving. All along the route they planned there are concrete blocks and stuff lying ready and waiting, so I dunno. Seems like a reaaaaally long wait.
