In the market for a new gazebo that we can use in cpt over december. Any recommendations on good makes, stuff to look out for etc?

We will use it at the beach and as c9ver when we braai.

Dont know a lot about them so open for any recommendations.

Wind vent in CT is very important. Reduce expectation on longevity of gazebos. Makro seems to have a good range. Buy towards the end of the year when a fuller range is in stock and regular promotions come a long. When the wind blows, although it might be tied down properly, look for tears that might appear. Small peg pins are useless in sand.

When it comes 2 Gazebos you essentially get 2 types.

1 - Cheap, lightweight and easy to put up but not that durable and cant be used in anything more than a light breeze.

2 - Expensive, heavy, takes longer to put up but will survive the wind and last a lifetime.

I went for option 2 from a company called Bushtec but there are other decent ones from other manufacturers.

awesome I think I'm with you with the canvas. Great believer in buy once cry once.

I found this. https://www.outdoorwarehouse.co.za/product/tentco-senior-canvas-gazebo
Looks to be a decent make similar to Bushtec.

Might need to just get a separate cheaper(read lighter) one that I can use for the beach as it will take a beating.

You go for the concertina type gazebo. The stronger canvas type gazebos are way to much work to put up or take down. Especially going to beach or somewhere for a few hours.

Now what you must know is that these concertina type gazebos, cant handle wind and it will break with your first use is you don't take a few extra steps in the wind.

Firstly. Any gazebo must always be secured properly, even if there is no wind. Just a quick gust can lift it and injure someone or damage someone's car, house or caravan.

The concertina type gazebos will have four ropes on the corners. Most of the times they are secured to the sheet/canopy. Remove them from that and just tie them to the top of each leg and obvious the other end into the ground with a tent pen. The canopy is now not secured and can just blow of if the wind is to strong and not damage your frame.

In very strong wind I have 4 extra ropes and tent pen that I secure to the middle concertina part of the frame on each side.

Was going to say the same.
Had the cheap one that broke as soon as there was some decent wind.

Then got the 2nd one which we have had for many years and still going strong :-)

The concertina one we had was tied down solid but wind bend the frame enough for it to not close anymore.

I camp a lot and especially when we go fishing at a dam, the wind can get hectic. Think I have lost 2 concertina type gazebos over 20 years.
Still buy them, as taking an hour vs 2min every time to setup is worth it.

thanks for all the suggestions . I'll go with the solid canvas one and get a concertina one for the beach if the effort gets to be too much.
