I've mentioned before that while GConnect's pricing is great, and I like the idea of using the same pool of money for 3G and adsl, the practicalities don't really work for me (I cannot easily use my adsl connection on my phone using my wireless router; Firefox updates don't work when firefox starts up, you have to manually remember to do an update after you've logged in; and so on).
Today I found another problem. I'm trying to use up my GConnect credits so that I can go back to Axxess, so I decided to download the Qimo ISO (it's an OS for kids). About 400MB in, GConnect times out. But it doesn't just time out and break the connection - it starts giving you the login.aspx page instead! So of course flashget thinks that this is part of the data it's supposed to be getting, and happily appends a bunch of login.aspx's in the middle of the Qimo iso!
So now I have two choices - assume the iso's ruined, and write off the 400MB that I've downloaded (and paid for! - thanks a lot, GConnect). Or take the chance that it's not ruined, and download the other 300-odd MB and then probably find that it still doesn't work!
So the lesson is, be careful when using GConnect for large downloads. As I say, I like the basic idea but their implementation has a looong way to go before it's the least bit user friendly.
