Gear for an airshow

Here's what I'm thinking

400D with the 70-200mm f/4
Xti with the 16-35mm f/2.8

or because the kids are coming with me just one body with the sigma 28-300.

I could bring my bag - use one body and swap lenses but that's just asking for another dirty sensor.
 
I would do the one body with the 28-300. I'm not sure whether the wide angle would work, unless you can get right up to the planes. If you can, then I'd put it the 16-35 in my pocket (albeit a very big pocket :D) - you can take some interesting perspective type shots with it.

I guess I could also wear the lens hood as a sombrero too :)
 
Do you have to rub it in? The last time we had an airshow up here (or at Waterkloof at least) was in 2004... but mind you, one skydiver did fall 500m onto the runway :eek:
 
man... I keep missing the airshow here in durbs... Must make the effort next year
 
Yeah - so I took (lugged around) all three lenses and both bodies :o









and so on
 
@ Bwana.... I see you took a photo of the "money van hijack".... in 2004 at the Waterkloof Show they accidentally hijacked the wrong van. :D

lol - ours was the bus full of soccer tourists but the cops seemed to be too focused on the bus/van and forgot about the hijackers with hostages. :)

Very nice Bwana! I really like 2 & 3. I assume 3 was done with the 16-35?

I think it's cheaper too which wont hurt.

I'm not too concerned about losing the 50-150 end if the 150-500 is comparable to the 50-500.
 
OS . . . does anyone know if the OS in the 150-500 will effectively compensate for vibrations from flying in a plane?
 
It might be a little hard to say but assuming you keep it as still as you can it should help.
