Vuma installed fibre at my place a few days ago.
After they'd gone I noticed the fibre 'cable' is not run in conduit under the roof eves, its even pulled tight against the wall as it goes round a corner.
I've asked Vuma and send the attached photo's and had no reply as yet.

I expected it to be run in conduit and certainly not pulled tight like a banjo string.
Can anyone give their opinion on this.

Cheers

I wouldn't say its a complete trainsmash, with Openserve fibre, the cable is completely exposed from the pole to the house and even inside the house.

I wouldn't worry too much if I were you :)

From your photos, it's looks like the fibre is inside a sleeve.

A Herotel guy showed me a picture on his phone of baboons swinging on that black cable after I asked him how strong it was.

It's not the prettiest installation but I wouldn't worry too much about it. I can't see anything from your photos that would affect the performance of your line.

Besides it looking a little lazy and not complete there are no issues there. Have tested it multiple times and it's much stronger than you think. Openserve uses the same/similar cables all overhead and don't bother with trunking and seen some of the installs on 5 years+ now without a scratch.

The most common issue would be having it cut or mistaken for another wire if nobody else notices it. Outside of that, nothing to stress about.

Thanks for the feedback.
I was involved with fibre installations many, many moons ago when we were still on dial up modems.
It was used in industry on machines and very fragile hence my concerns.

Now to wait for the router to arrive and put theory into practice.
