I personally LOVE Sony, huge fan!!! But I am not fond of the design of that 40". The bezel looks way to thick.

The Samsung I think looks more stylish. :)

Ok well I'm in the market for a new TV, mainly for PS3 gaming.. I was looking at getting a 40" LCD as I sit about 3m away and my lil 24" PC screen is ya, a bit to small for that distance :)
I don't really need network, or usb support for the tv, but atleast 2 hdmi...
I was looking at the sony bravia: http://www.catsdigital.co.za/sony-klv-40bx400-40-bravia-lcd-tv.html I don't really wanna go over 7k so this kinds fits in.. Any alternatives?

EDIT: I've also seen: http://www.catsdigital.co.za/samsung-la-40c530-532-40-lcd-tv.html
The 40BX400 is a really good budget FHD tv. At R5999 it's a steal. There are minor differences between the BX and the EX, that is truly not worth the extra R2K.

+1

The EX400 is probably marginally better at SD content, I'm guessing.

For gaming, it really doesn't matter. Even a Sinotech is good for gaming.

LCD

Samsung LA40C530
Sony 40EX400

Both 40" and ±R7,000

Plasma

Samsung PS42C430

42" (trust me those 2" make a difference) and R5,800

Samsung PS50C430

50" and R8,000

The latter two are the best bang for buck screens on the market. Apparently gaming on the PS50C430 is epic. :) Both plasmas listed are HD/720p. But remember, 99% of PS3 games are HD or less. And, even the experts cannot tell the difference between HD and FHD from 2.5m+ viewing distance.

Best go into the stores and test. ;)

I'm not too phased about the 1080, but i'm worried about burn on plasma, as when i used to play ps2 on our plasma it would burn the dials/HUD into the screen even after a short period, grant it would go away after a week, but still puts me off..

On the note of the bezel, thats one of the reasons why I also would go for the sammy, will match the t240 thats in my room :D

Any ideas for a 32" to 42" FHD TV for around R5k?

Sport would be the main concern.
I would rather have a smaller TV than have crappy looking rugby.

Older plasmas were much worse. I've not read a single complaint of burn-in on plasma on these forums with gaming. Only image retention that's gone in less than 5 minutes.

Matching would be cool though. That said, just about all these new LCDs/plasmas are sexy as hell.

The LG LED-backlit LCD at R5,999. LE325500 or something? 32", 100Hz...

I take it you can't fit a Samsung 42" plasma at ±R5,800? That would take the cake.

What? NO!
Are you serious?!

The plasma was probably damaged ... or the settings were incorrect ... or it was a cheap plasma .... or it was old ... or perhaps your feed is incorrect .... or maybe you imagined it .... ?

Did you try Pixel + Phase Shifter II every 2 hours?
Or how Magic Washer combined with the settings before you go to sleep?

Either way, IR is a hoax ... doesn't effect anyone on MyBB, so you're safe blasting a static image for days with no worry at all.

Unfortunately not.
Saw the LG. Thought it was good price but in the shop (Game) it did not look very good. I was really disappointed.

Anyway back on topic, decided to keep my 40" LCD, I never realised trying to sell a brand new sealed TV would be so hard

Anyways, I plugged my hi-fi into the the TV and I couldn't get any sound out, I changed the source on the TV to external speaker, but still nothing.

I have a red and white RCA going from the hi-fi to the TV, tried all the ports but no sound. Hifi is on AUX.

What am I doing wrong.

Yup - I tried selling my plasma and it was extremly difficult - not as easy as I thought either

I'm selling speakers at almost 1/3 of the value and - apart from a scammer - nothing in the past 2 weeks. Looks like I'll be keeping them.

Stupid question - but TV is audio out?
Cables are working?

You've confirmed that you are plugging it into the TV's out not in RCA ports? I don't know why they keep putting those right next to each other :-D

Hmm not sure, should have a audio out?

Yeah cables working.

Cool I know that one from experience *whistles in corner...

Here is a funny thing, I bought a cheap Logik for the bedroom about 2 months ago, I mean don't need a fancy big TV in there, but the odd thing is on AV1 or AV2 the viewing angle is horrible, though the pic quality is clear as clear can be. Switch over to HDMI, VGA, Component what ever and the viewing angle is faaaar better, it is odd. Has anyone else experienced this?
