General Plasma & LCD discussions

Here is a funny thing, I bought a cheap Logik for the bedroom about 2 months ago, I mean don't need a fancy big TV in there, but the odd thing is on AV1 or AV2 the viewing angle is horrible, though the pic quality is clear as clear can be. Switch over to HDMI, VGA, Component what ever and the viewing angle is faaaar better, it is odd. Has anyone else experienced this?

That is odd Lupus. I know LCD's generally don't have great viewing angles, but I can't say I have noticed it that bad on mine. If you decoder is close, you could try using RCA cables instead and see if that makes any difference.

As for Logick, I know its supposedly not the best brand, but my mother in law has had hers now for about 3 years and that thing still looks as good as the day it was bought. Nothing wrong with them IMO.

You probably want to post that in the Bargains thread :)

Hmm I wonder if it is latency related, will take a look at the cables and see. As I'm using the RCA cables that came with the DVD player.

Hi guys. I'm having some issues with a samsung lcd and wondering if anyone can help. The red standby light is on and when i press the power button it flashes for a few seconds and then nothing. No picture, no sound.

Ouch that doesn't sound good Themba, when you unplug it from the wall and let it sit idle for a bit and plug it in do you get anything? Also are you turning it on via the remote on button or via the switch on the TV?

I did try that, even moved it to a different plug and still nothing... I use the switch on the tv but it's a touch sensitive button so it's not really building my confidence

Unfortunately that doesn't sound good at all. Will probably have to send it in for a diagnosis, but sounds like a board could be blown, or a capacitor.

Ok. It's on now but i think i should still let the technician come take a look while it's still under warranty

If it is under warranty get the techie out immediately to look into it. Otherwise it could become a costly affair, good luck

I've had it and a buddies has had them come to our houses, so I'm assuming it's the norm?

Was it on PC or HDMI source? If that source is not on, then it will stay black.

Do they actually come to your house? :wtf:

They do, but not Samsung, the techs that have the samsung contract for your area.

Cool, I dread the though of having to move my 50" if anything should happen :p

This is maby abit irrelevant, but I have a question about HDMI cables. I bought two different hdmi cables, one for R100, another for R200 (both 1.8m). But I saw these cables can go for R1.5k!!! WTF. Can these cables really make such a huge difference, or is that just a scam for the people who dont really know, but who wants the best.

A consumer affairs program did a comparison test on 1.5m cables, el cheapos vs much $$$. Professional video editors couldn't tell the difference.

Quality may however count over longer distances, and on cable durability if you plugging them in and out all the time.

As to Plasma vs LCD, I have both, a 48' Plasma & 42' LCD both Panasonic (Look identical apart from size).

I Love the versatility of both TV's:

Digital tuners
3 AVI in (one out)
3 HDMI in
VGA in
SD Card slot
Link to Panasonic DVD player.
Audio quality on both is excellent.

The LCD seems to require a viewing angle of at least 10-15', the plasma less, but at 5' the picture becomes "layered"

Both plasma and LCD are coming down in price, as they're now 'old' technology, (I guess the 60year+ CRT tech must be archaic) and LED and 3d are the new pricey stuff.

HDMI Source but it wasn't that though. If i source is unplugged there is usually a message box telling you to check the connection

Wrong section? Regardless, I'm sure that's just the empty box they're selling there :D

Especially since it says JAPAN Samsung, Samsung is Korean so that would be a little???

Ok so I have the PS50C550 in my sights for this week(While the specials last). Now I just need the fools who I work for to pay me already
