Ok so I have the PS50C550 in my sights for this week(While the specials last). Now I just need the fools who I work for to pay me already

So the panning jitter does not bother you, like other users have reported?

I know R9,999 is a good deal, but if I may ask, do you need full HD?

Personally I'd stick with the PS50C430/C450.

I have not seen the panning jitter really mentioned much when googling...care to link me....?

It's pretty much a fact. Assegai's spoken of it, TYR's spoken of it, and one or two others if I'm not mistaken.

Have you tested the set?

I went to view it but didn't see much distortion of any kind. That said I remember that assegai wasn't very happy at all with his set. Thing is if it was such a common issue I'm sure there would have been more mention of it on the interwebs. Hmmm....

What re the current prices on the C450 like...? Thing is like I said if you make game do a price beat then the set will sell for roughly R9k.

Perhaps you aren't Googling the correct terms?

Did you specifically examine panning scenes?

PS50C430 is about R8,000. Don't know about the PS50C450 - C450s are generally scarce.

For what it's worth, here is another user with the same tv who seems rather happy:

http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,7793.0.html

He's had it for one day and hasn't made any comments on picture quality? How do you know if he's watched media with lots of panning shots? Example wildlife doccies, etc.

Him seeming rather happy does not mean the TV does not suffer from judder in panning scenes. ;)

Several forumites here commenting on judder in panning scenes says a lot more...

If you read through the thread you would see that I specifically asked him about the judder. Other than assegai I haven't seen any other mention of the judder...? (In which thread did we discuss it again..?)

He doesn't say which type of media he's been watching. Of course, one wouldn't find judder in media that doesn't have panning shots.

Look, maybe some just notice it more than others. Ultimately, you must be the judge. If you can't see any, then for R9,800 it's a no brainer. :)

There are so many threads, with so many posts, that I'd find it hard to find the specific posts. Perhaps create a thread about it? I think that would be the best way.

I've seen the LG 42" LD460 from makro for R6.5k : http://www.makro.co.za/p/39170/lg-42---full-hd-lcd-tv---1x107cm/
now it's basically the same price as the Samsung 40" C530 I was looking at.

Do any members own said TV's? Any issues or gripes with either?

I plan on going in store to view both, but would just like some input/warnings beforehand :)

Peanut, I own the C530 and was in the exact same boat as you. I stood in Makro for close on 2 hours trying to decide between those 2 models. The 2" extra on the LG was the only thing making me lean towards it more than the Samsung, but I am personally not a huge LG fan. I finally decided that the 2 extra inches wasn't worth it and went for the Samsung.

My honest feelings? SD Dstv is average, I was pretty disappointed in it, still am, even as I lie in bed watching the dog whisperer :p Its not THAT bad, but when you see a more expensive LCD or a plasma you notice the difference.

Gaming is pretty awesome on it, but then again gaming on any flat screen is nice. I bought a Plasma for my lounge and am way happier with the quality of my DSTV, which is one of my big uses for it. Gaming on it it also fine, no issues there.

Personally if you are going to use the TV mainly for DSTV and sport try save some cash and get a better LCD model. The C530 is after all the entry level. Or if you are not apposed to plasma, look at the 42C430, only about R5899 and will give you better DSTV quality.

Good luck

Those extra 2" will make quite a difference. I haven't seen that TV but I'm guessing quality for gaming and other HD media would be the same for both. If warranties are the same and you don't favour either brands, the LG would probably be the one to go for!

Pretty sure he said he's using it for gaming in an earlier post :)

Ya mainly gaming, movies and HD content form the interwebs :D, I will have it connected to dstv, but I only ever watch my current tv, if it's sport and I'm to lazy to go to the lounge.

@Grimspoon I'll have a look at a few plasmas, but I've got this mental block that plasmas are for sport/SD content and LCD is for gaming/HD content..

Lol why would LCD be for HD content? HD on plasma will blow you away - deeper blacks, better colours, better motion. At least at the lower end of the market (although the best TVs in the world are plasma too - LCD gets a lot better when you have a deep pocket admittedly, but seeing as most people don't, go figure). Both are for everything really. Plasma is just better at SD/sport at the lower end of the market especially. You just have to be careful with the static images thing. Many say that gaming is better on plasma - makes sense. Definitely test both!

Peanut, I had a similar perception when I bought my LCD, if only I had just looked a bit more and researched a bit I probably wouldn't have bought the LCD.

Remember plasma's have had a bad rap from years ago when they first started out. Plasma have come a very long way since then and there are still those who shun plasma's and think they are crap for whatever reason. Personally I think plasmas and LCD's are very much equal. Both have their strong points and both have weaknesses.

I am a gamer, a big gamer, I game every single night on either my Xbox or PS3 both of which are hooked up to my 50" plasma, it is pure bliss let me tell you :D

I also stream all my movies from my PC through my PS3, once again, pure bliss :D

Absolutely nothing wrong gaming or playing HD stuff on a plasma.

nakedpeanut ....

I'd personally use another forum and Google when deciding ;)

You won't get the correct answer here. Generally speaking, the majority are of us are IT people with little idea of what's going on

Dolby, there is no "correct" answer, maybe for you there is.

As I say there is no correct answer, only facts, of which we have given out. Its up to the consumer to decide on what they are looking for.

100% Grim. I'm on the fence with you :)
