General Plasma & LCD discussions

I know where Dolby is coming from, it's mostly as he has tried out the different tech and has some understanding of how it works. He is trying to give out the best advice he can, I've got a feeling Postman is trying the same thing and if the two of them actually knew each other IRL they'd probably be friends ;-). Can we get back to discussing flat panelled TVs now?

Slightly agree. If we were in 2007, I would agree 100%. :)

lol you play nice now ladies :p hahaha

Now this little plasma has caught my eye: L.G TV 42" PLASMA 42PJ350
and the 40" Bravia EX400 http://www.hificorporation.co.za/product/1030080/sony-tv-40-lcd-40ex400/
Both for the same price..

If I do decide to go plasma, I want it to be relatively thin. The LG has gotten some very good reviews, so i'm quite split between the two. Actually leaning toward the LG at the moment..

So it's off the makro to view the LG 42" LD460 and Samsung 40" C530 I mentioned earlier.
and to Hi-fi for the above two from this post.
Assuming I don't find all of them in one shop..

Rather get the Samsung 42" plasma. R5600 at some places. The tried, tested and trusted plasma (as I say a lot :D). Better after sales service. Better documented. About 10 forumites bought it between December and January.

Definatley the mark of something destined for greatness!

Look at Toyota sales versus Porsche in December!

Toyota FTW!

I mean he was listening to R10,000 for 5 speakers a sub. If - for example - the full range that made him go WOW were 5 Monitor Audio Silver speakers and sub for R20,000 it'd be slightly unfair?

Take a floorstanding R10,000 set to compare.

Heed your own advice!

Yeah, and if Porsche was affordable it would've sold more not so?

Besides, Porsche is rubbish;)

And you did just make the point anyways that people will generally buy whatever it is that gets them the best bang for their buck.

If you are looking for a hybrid of thin and plasma, you have to look at the C6000 and C7000. Higher end than the C430 / C450 range. However, i do know that LG does make a decent Plasma. BUT, and this is a small BUT, i have read, on AVSFORUMS, that the LG does have more IR than a Samsung. But don't take my word for it, try google it. Personally, i bought the 40EX400 for gaming and PC at Hirsch's, and while i was waiting, i had a look at the LG range. The plasma's weren't that bad, although a little more washed than the Samsung, but could just be settings, however, they do have single panel glass, which is nice. But the true difference i saw was between LG LED tv's and Samsung LED's. The LG looked far better. Even the 3D worked better than the Samsung. So don't discard the LG, maybe do a visual as you have mentioned, and then do an online comparison.

The C450 considering it is a 50" panel, is pretty thin, it is in fact the same thickness as my C530.

True, in comparison to the Sony LCD's, the Plasma's are very thin. If you get a chance to see a C6000/C7000 or even C8000 plasma, you'll be amazed at how thin they are. Almost as thin as an LED tv.

Bwahaha. His hypocrisy (and subsequent [-]stupidity[/-] ignorance) is so funny. :D

He tells us that it's unfair to compare R10,000 speakers to R20,000 speakers, and then he produces those gems. :D

♥ Dolby!

I think this is quite appropriate;)

Basically PP said plasma would change the world with it's deep black levels and holographic images.

When I pointed out he was wrong, he cried about pricing ... ever since then if I bring price into the equation, he asks 'what's price got to do with it?' Then I remove pricing ... but he brings it back ... then I bring it back and he compares Kuros ... then I bring it price and he moans.

He mentioned the burn in R50,000.00 plasma - he said price isn't important. TYR brings up his LCD has as deep blacks as his KURO - he brings price back.

Just stick to one thing, please

Lold. Your dramatic, fabricated stories are as obscure, and follow in less sequence, as the lowest rated SABC 1/E-TV soap operas. Please carry on; your antics are greater than that of a clown and bring much joy to my days, and I'm sure many others who follow your in-sequential and bizarre posts, too. It's Dolby vs Dolby, priceless stuff!

He's using SALES VOLUME as a basis for how good something is. WTF?

The point is trying to use SALES VOLUME for a basis of how good something is is just ... stupid. I'm thinking my 10 year nephew knows that much.

Besides, Porsche is rubbish;).

I'm sure you have a basis on tem?
Maybe you had a dud model?
Which model was it, out of interest?

I hope you're not joining PPs rank with his reviews and slating things he's never seen, touched or owned ;)

Oh my. The point is the Samsung plasmas are the tried, tested and trusted ones with the mist documentation, and this fact is made concrete by the amount of sales they get. Read my posts. I explained this. See, my posts have order and sequence. Perhaps go back to school to star learning comprehension.

It's sad to think you look down on people who buy the same products. Man, those products must be emitting fairy dust or something in order to get the sales. It COULDN'T be because they are regarded as the best! Those 10 people who bought the 42" Sammies must be stupid!

Oh wait, each one has come back to the forum raving about their epic value for money purchase and thanking PostmanPot...

Wrong again my dear friend.

Bwhahaha, I must say Dolby, you do add some much needed entertainment to my day :D

Ok -you win.

They bought it because it's regarded as the best thing available.

Fantastic ...

What do you disagree with?
That R5,000.00 plasma is the best and that's why people buy them?
Or the fact that sales volume equates being the best?

I've got the super rich uncle looking dropping R50,000.00 on a set ... but I'll call him now and tell him 10 people on the forum bought the R5,000.0 version because it's the best. He should rather consider that and save R45,000.00

Afterall, the 10 aren't stupid!
