Hey, FYI I bought a Hisense 32 Inch LCD from HI Fi Corp late 2007, 2 years later (2009) the darn thing packs up and I get no picture/sound! Take it back to HI FI and get told that my warranty expired, but had I purchased a few months later in 2008 I would've have a gotten a 3 year warranty!!!!!

So I pay for the repair (R3500 btw) and TV works again until last night I get home, same damn problem no picture but I get sound.

It seems Hisense LCD's only last 2 years! Definitely wont get one of those ever again!

Ouch sorry to hear that. Thought they made decent TV's, thats at least what I heard.

Go for a Samsung / Sony next time.

Yup it does happen to every brand.

Personally I know ppl don't like the Sinotec brand, its that 5 year warranty that is incredibly attractive from a peace of mind point of view.

I can't really say I have heard a bad thing about Sinotec.

Good news is that it seems I am at about 200 hours of viewing on my plasma. :D

dont get a sinotec!!it may be ok for 720p content but hook up your ps3 and load a blue ray movie and the picture was actually sort of lagging!it's like the tv couldn't process the amount of data coming through and hence there was like a stuttering effect.we used the same ps3 and same blue ray movie on my LG tv and it played ultra smooth:)

You must have had a strange Sinotec then.

My current one plays 1080p content just fine.

My current one also plays 1080p content perfectly fine.

Quick question: Does using a HD DSTV decoder improve the TV quality on all channels or is it only the HD channels that are better?

Shot Zen, what I thought.

No, the HD PVR's video out via HDMI is actually a lot better than another decoder's S-video out (not even mentioning RCA) for SD channels. Wait, make that a HUGE improvement.

The HDPVR does upscaling of the SD Channels.

Its not perfect, but its a damn site better than the bog-standard decoder

I've noticed a difference between the HDMI connections to the RCA's on the HDPVRs so it definitely does do something.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like it might be worth getting one then.

It can be used in combination with my current SD PVR correct?

Yip. XtraView. I think you'll be able to watch 3 and record 2/3. At least with the current HD PVR.

Aha that sounds pretty sweet. If I can have 3 channels and record even just 2, that will be sweet.

Will all channels be fed by the HD decoder then? I won't have 1 HD and 1 SD?

Correct. Also thinking of getting one.

Yeah, this is sounding like a plan. I will need to get a guy in to reroute all my cables though. Scared it might cost a kidney.
