That chart explains HD vs Full HD, not plasma vs LCD.

I was only talking abt LCD here - the further u go back - the more SD and HD look the same.

At what viewing distance?
Have to ask.

PS42C430 was R5,999 6 months ago, now as low as R4,999.
PS42C450 was R6,999, now R5,999.
PS50C430 was ±R10,000, now R7,500.
PS50C450 was ±R10,999, now R7,999.
PS50C550 was ±R12,999, nor R9,999.

Yep 42" has dropped, but
50C430 was R7999 on special at Makro 6 months ago - now R8999 normal price and R7999 on special. Maybe makro just had a crazy special going on at the time.

BTW: C430 has USB slot.

Same with any technology, whether LCD/plasma/HD CRT.

Indeed, because we can agree with him if he's talking about a close viewing distance.

PS50C430 has been seen for R6,999 recently, now that I remember. Makro/Game seem to always be up and down so you need to compare with other shops. I remember seeing it at over R9,000 - R10,000 around 6 months ago (probably R9,999).

Yes it does, although it is limited to fewer file type than the C450 and up models.

Personally I prefer Samsung because they are more popular and better documented.

I have heard good and bad things about the LG's in comparison to the similarly-priced Samsung's. Apparently LG menu's are worse, also apparently the LG 42" at R4,999 is worse than the Samsung 42" at a similar price. Then I have also heard from someone that they thought the LG appeared better.

The problem is I don't know whether they played with the menu settings. One could have been set up better than the other or vice versa.

Go and see for yourself as to which is better. Don't forget to play around with the menu settings. Also the PS50C430 is R6,999 somewhere (forgot now).

Really where?

Sammy vs. LG - i felt the sammy was slightly better - but only slightly. Compared them over weekend at Game and chose optimised settings for both.
Menus - really not gonna buy a TV cos one has a better menu.

I got the 50c430 for R6999 at new world menlyn, was a one day sale for their 10th birthday, and only to the first 10 customers. Had to stand in a mother qeue for ages though, and I got there at 5:30. Was all worth it though.

They had some great deals, the 42c430 went for R3999 for the first 10...

Cats has the 50c450 for R7999 last time I checked.

50C450 for R7999 and C430 for for R8499 - go figure.
50C550 for R10499.

I think the first two are supposed to be the other way around.

Still, great deals which does not detract from the fact that these TV's are the best value on the market.

Next? ;)

I can't agree with the statement you +1'ed. Plasma buzz should not be audible from 1m away. Who watches TV without any sound? It doesn't buzz when it's off. Next, you run no risk of burn-in on plasma, unless connected to a PC doing work repetitively where there are static images.

Not sure what the "looking out the window" comment means, but I wonder if they've seen the top range Panasonic Viera plasma. ;)

Why? Smaller stores do the C450 at good prices. Audiovision, Tafelberg.

I haven't been able to find it though. Went to AV in Cavendish and they only had the C430. I asked the rep and he just shook his head and laughed... Admittedly, AV in Cavendish isn't very big, but I can't remember seeing it at the Canal Walk store either.
Will have to go check Tafelberg again...can't remember what they had.
