In the latest Game broschure they are advertising a Samsung 40" 3D led TV (model no AU40C7000) for R9999 which seems a heck of a good price, is it worth buying?

Yeah, that's one thing that's been bugging me.

There are 4 cases of 720p and 1080p that one must consider.

When you view 720p video files on a 720p TV
When you view 720p video files on a 1080p TV
When you view 1080p video files on a 720p TV
When you view 10801p video files on a 1080p TV.

In the 1st you have 720p files being fitted to a 720p TV.
In the 2nd you have 720p files being upscaled to a 1080p TV.
In the 3rd you have 1080p files being downscaled to a 720p TV.
In the 4th you have 1080p files being fitted to a 1080p TV.

Downscaling a file from 1080p to 720p preserves some detail, so picture would be better than a native 720p file.

Upscaling a file from 720p to 1080p cannot add detail, so the picture would be the same, or worse than the original 720p file.

In short, a downscaled video looks much better than an upscaled video.

So, to compare 2 TVs one should do the following:

1) Play a 720p and 1080p file on the same TV, then compare.
1) Play a 720p file on both, the 720p TV and the 1080p TV, then compare
2) Play a 1080p file on both, the 720p TV and the 1080p TV, then compare.

Only then can you know how much better the a 1080p TV is compare to a 720p TV.
 
Oddly enuf.. The D Series plasma's are all natively 720p :)

But as an addition to MiY4Gi's post... I'd like to suggest that the test also has to be done with the same source material.. so it would need to be the same movie/series in 720p and 1080p....

Need some help. I was always under the impression from talking to audio/visual sales guys that plasma is only better when watching Sports compared to LCD's.

Now I would like to know which is the best plasma to buy in 50" / 55" size?
I mainly watch Soccer via HD PVR2 Decoder.

Ur thoughts plz

R6,999 whatever LG has, although the Samsungs are rated better (just saying this so I don't sound like "the Samsung employee" ;))

I need some advice or information:
I have bought a 47" LED LG 3D TV (47LX9500) about a week ago. I need to know if it is normal for video input via AV1/AV2 (analogue) is delayed compared to the sound that is sent to an audio amp.
My setup I am testing which used to work very well on CRT TV:

From DSTV decoder, I take the video feed (yellow) directly to AV1 video input of the LED TV. The two audio feeds (from decoder) is input into AUX audio in of audio amp (Marantz) - just plain stereo..not home theatre!

The sound is clearly ahead of the video! I looks like the video is somehow delayed before being displayed on the screen. Is that normal? if I take the audio feeds from the decoder directly to the TV AV audio inputs and listen to the sound on the TV speakers, the image and sound are 100% in sync!

Is that normal? I have phoned LG service guys and they said it does not sound normal and I have to take the TV back and get another one as the one I have sounds faulty. Another technician from a well known installer company told me that there will be a delay in the video via the AV analogue input. I am not sure now who is correct. I did another test: I linked my PC video graphics output (DVI) to the VGA input of TV while the audio was fed directly to audio amp. The sync was perfect!

I assume the sync will be fine if I only use the HDMI input (the TV has 4x) as a single source for video/audio. My question is that could there be something wrong causing the delay in video via the AV1 (analogue) input on the TV? It is a bit of a schlep to put the TV back in the box, ferry it to the dealer, get another one just to find out it is normal :)

So if connection is like this:
DSTV Decoder (dual view) --> Video Out ----> AV1 Video in on LED TV
DSTV Decoder (dual view) --> Audio (L/R) Out ----> Audio input (AUX/CD) on Marantz amp
there is huge delay in video..audio is ahead of video.

There are no settings on the TV to set this. Anybody with the same experience? Is the TV Faulty or is it normal that Video analogue input on TV is "processed", hence the delay?

Your input will be appreciated!

I have a Samsung Blu-Ray Home Theater All in one job and in the settings there is an option to adjust the AV sync.
This delays the sound by a certain amount (my default is 50ms) so that the TV has a chance to decode and display the video.

I would assume this is the problem you're having (but maybe a lot more than 50ms?)
Try looking in the amp for some settings (may be a dial or something on the front or back). Unfortunately you can't advance the video so there won't be any settings on the TV.:)
Could also look in the DSTV Decoder for settings?

Can you not send the output of your TV (should be an Audio Output at the back) and then play everything through the amp. That's what I've done and it's great.
Most TVs (I'm sure yours will) have this option. Then you'd just feed the audio from the DSTV decoder into the AV input on the TV with a single Audio Out to the amp.
 
Yeah, the problem is with the Amp. Try connecting the DSTV video and audio outputs to the TV's AV1 video and audio inputs, the connect the TV's AUX audio output to the Amps, AUX audio input. If that also doesn't work, then you'll need to try what Jonno2343 said, and look for some settings on the Amp to adjust the audio-video sync.

WTF!!!

Edit: Ok, called a branch & they confirmed it is R12999. Website is incorrect.
