Generator Advice

Yes it will be fine unless your PC is a beast with multiple hoooj graphics cards and a million hard drives.

Will this generator be able to power my PC, 2x Monitors (1 LCD, 1 CRT), and an ADSL router? I'm no electrician but 1000W sounds like plenty for this. I will be plugging my 2kVA UPS into it and the UPS will power the computer stuff. I know a 2kVA UPS is very much overkill for the computer stuff I mentioned :P

It's a 800W unit, not 1000W (I'm basing that on 80% pF most engines put out). But you'll get 4.5Amps from it, so you can trickle charge the UPS deep cycle batteries with it.

Supply and demand!

I bought my 5.5kva just after the 2008 fiasco. Pretty sure I paid around 4 grand for it.
Same here :) R3999 springs to mind. :D

what's this AVR you speak of?

Auto Voltage Regulator. It does what the name implies. If your Jenny is taking strain from load fluctuations (like when the Mrs switches on the Microwave you told her NOT to use while running on Gen power) then the AVR compensates by excitation etc. to maintain an acceptable voltage range. Bigger machines have AVRs and Speed Controllers to keep the RPM at a constant 1500 to get 50Hz regardless of what the load does.
