Anyone recommend the best place to get a decent quality 63 Amp single phase changeover switch?
Ideally it should have an LED to show mains status, and fit in a modular DB...

What a good idea.

Our neighbours have obviously never heard of one, as they left their genny running long after the power came back on, last weekend. It was a bit bloody annoying.

PS second the Voltex suggestion.

Voltex was a bust. They could only offer me a 40 amp switch, and their price is double what I've been seeing elsewhere...

if you already have a supplier, then why are you asking :) -- let us know where is cheaper so we can all learn!

I've seen a few different ones in web searches, generally around the R1400 mark for single phase 60 amp. Have not yet decided where I'll be getting it from yet - however I have discovered that one of my acquaintances has just gone into business doing this kind of thing so I'm awaiting a quote from him.

Sinbad,

Regarding the LED status. If they don't have, what you can do is to install a 230V buzzer with a switch which you just tie to the Munic mains side of the selector switch (changeovers work with contactors). That way it makes a noise when mains is back on (often easier than having to go and look at an LED every 20mins) and you simply flick off the buzzer switch and throw back to mains on the 63A selector.

I like that idea. Where can I get a buzzer that's louder than my flipping generator?

:D

I'll try find out, but in the interim you might want to move your Jenny to OUTSIDE your house. :p

hhahahaha

I'm sure it'll be much better once I have this sorted out, rather than having to have a window open to run the cable inside...
