Hello
I am trying to prepare for loadshedding. Please can anyone help me with the best solution. I need to cover a couple of lights, plugs, garage door opener, electric blanket, alarm, toaster. I am being quoted R10,000 - R15,000 to connect a generator which seems to be rather excessive since I want a manual transfer switch. Quotations would be welcome to [email protected]
I am in Midrand. Many thanks.

Is the house single or three phase?

Generator or Battery/Inverter will need to have a Certificate of Compliance Issued. That alone is like R5k (because electrician).

If the house is three phase, you will need to install a 3 to 1 phase changeover for a generator, and do all the cable routing in the wall.

Battery/Inverter can be bought as single or three phase, and have instant changeover when mains goes down (just dont connect your geyser to it, otherwise you will need a very big and expensive inverter and battery setup)

That depends on the generator you were quoted for. An 8,5 kVA generator costs about R11k now, then you need the change over switch, cables etc and installation, which could take 3 hours plus.

You could go with a UPS option, depending on what you want to power on the plugs. The toaster will likely be too much power unless you have sufficient batteries. But a UPS system like this will cost you more then R10k anyway.

Hello
The property is three phase but one phase goes to another house.
