Hi all,

I picked up an unused generator from my father in law. It has a twist locking 3 prong plug, but no lead to plug anything into, so I want to connect it's plug to a multi-adapter.
Its a Honda EZ4500.
I need help figuring out with how to wire the live, neutral and ground wires because the twist lock plug is only marked X, Y and Z.
The N you can see in the attached picture has what is either a N or a Z on the back when you look at the other side, depending on how you rotate it. Could be neutral, but none of my googling has returned results for a NYZ combo, only XYZ.20200227_203619.jpg
Any ideas which is which?

Thanks!

The name is on the side. American Denki.
Plug it in. power up and measure using multi-meter is your best bet here. Damn americans went and changed everything again.

If I were to guess I would say
X - live
Y - neutral
Z - Ground/earth

Use this at your own risk

Looks like one of the NEMAs, possibly 240V hot-neutral-hot (ungrounded). See:

Closest is L6-20:

Thanks for this! It's a L6-15

Now my follow up... what do I do with the neutral wire if this thing doesn't have neutral on its plug? Just wire it up anyway?

The neutral wire is solely to provide 120V for relevant applications. There was a recent discussion on another thread about the use of this kind of generator in SA.

AGAIK it can be used with normal 240V appliances, but with some precautions. It will not provide an earth wire, and both wires will be 'live' relative to the generator body. It must never be connected to your domestic supply, only stand-alone use.
