Generators and electronics

Hi folks,

I know there are a few threads on generators et al but I need some specific advice!

I have bought a Ryobi 2500W generator and after speaking to some people they mention that the genny must have an automatic voltage regulator built-in if you want to use the genny on PC's and TV's, well any equipment with sensitive circuitry. Well the Ryobi does not have the AVR!

The PC's are fed from a UPS (MECER) and but the Plasma is fed directly off the 220V socket.

Now the question is: How does not having an AVR affect the power from the genny. Do I need another UPS for the plasma and home theater?

Does the AVR protect against over voltage?

Any solutions and/or ideas out there?

AFAIK the AVR protects against spikes and dips in power.

The above I quoted of a website.

And believe me I am shopping around for a honda gennie with avr, last time round i blew up the tv the dstv and and everything else connected to it due to a faulty gennie

Genny's

All genuine Honda genny's come with a built in AVR so you dont have to worry about smoothing the current.

I know that there are other makes like Tiger and Mac-Afric that also have a pure sine wave and will work just fine with electronic equipment.

The only problem is trying to get hold of one!

Just dont overload your genny, it might just overheat!
