Generators

Depends on your definition of silent, the units we use are fairly quiet, you can actually have a conversation next to it,but the noise is noticeable in the immediate area, unless you construct an enclosure to direct the noise basically

*Edit - yep we use the Genking branded gen,68 for my office. Lovely unit

There will always be noise... if you want it to be "silent" then you'll have to built a separate room or enclosure and soundproof (and ventilate) it.

Careful of marketing blurb... go stand next to the ones under consideration and hear for yourself.
^This.

I purchased a "silent" unit for the office during the rolling blackouts a couple of years ago, the background noise whilst trying to work was so distracting I ditched it in favour of a deep cycle batteries / inverter solution. Doubt I got more than 10 hours of use out of the generator.

Edit: BTW the gennie was properly mounted outside under a rain shelter (not fully enclosed) the other side of the office wall.

Generators are flippin loud no matter what you do tbh.

e.g. My employer has one installed underground & fairly far away and even that is pretty loud.

We have a 400kva cummins, when purchasing the beast we would have saved thirty grand buying a nirmal case, but we opted for silened casing...more insulated, but even so still makes a thump thump when running, so i can only imagine it swithout soundproof casing.....
