Generic charger for new Samsung?

I’ve just upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy A55.I have an option to get a generic 25w charger @ R350 from Vodacom,or get the original Samsung charger for R570.
My question is will the generic battery have any negative long term effect on the phone/battery?
Or should I pay the extra R200 for the original?

That 25w charger is 2A, more than enough. You will get a full charge in less than an hour.

No need to buy an original. When you say generic what brand is it? Because if its some no name brand then I wouldn't use it.

I also dont recommend a fast charger, they deteriorate the battery faster as the phone gets older.
 
Brand is Gerlax
Its expensive for a generic charger at R350
Takealot has generics in the R100 - R200 price range.

Fast charging doesn't deteriorate the battery any differently than slow charging. What degrades the battery is the cycles. Going down to 0 and charging back to 100% will cause degradation. The speed at which it's done doesn't matter.
Batteries on phones like to be between 20 to 80% keep it there for long periods would be a better choice than 0 to 100%.
I've had my S23 ultra for a year and a half using fast charging and sometimes super fast charge 2 with no real difference in battery life.

I've got 2 of these, one at the office and one at home. As long as you only charge one device you'll get 25w from it easily. It'll drop down the more you connect.

Charging rate does have an effect on battery life. Most of the modern phones will only fast charge below a certain battery percentage but you get 150w charging these days which is about 8C and not great for the battery.

25W charging should be below 2C so should be OK though.

Got this when I got my S23 Ultra. Still working, super fast charging and I can also charge my galaxy watch at the same time.

I got a 65w Ugreen a few months ago and it's brilliant - at R999 it's also a little spendy.

Maybe in the early days, but newer phones control the charging and heat. Plus you'll notice the phones slow down charging when it gets closer to 80%. They'll also stop charging at 100% and probably trickle charge again before you wake up.
But the degradation of fast charging isn't like it was back in the earlier days. As even with 150w charging phones will have different cells to mitigate issues.

Agreed but its like the last charger you will need :P I have the 100W can charge phone tablet smartwatch and more at the same time

Those 150W speeds are for <50%, generally if it's under half full, there is near no difference in degradation between slow and fast charging.

E.g. the OnePlus 11 has a warranty claim of 1600 cycles at 80% capacity, will be more than 80% that your phone says as your phone will never truly let you fully charge, it will always reserve a little, and generally also not let you hit 0%.

And at 1600 cycles, if your phone lasts 1-2 days, that's 5-10 years, you're not going to see an issue with battery degradation comparing fast charging to normal charging, just based on time it will degrade by that much probably.

Just bought this, but the super fast port (apparently the middle option) is only marginally faster than the other port. Not as fast as the standard Samsung fast charger for my S24+.

The top port says it's 65w, that would be the super 2 fast one, the middle one would be max super fast.

i was unlucky with one of those - bought it from Takealot and it worked for the sum total of 2 days but since it was under R200 i did not bother returning it or getting a new one - just continued using my older Xiaomi charger with the new cable since the old cable snapped and this was the reason for the purchasing exercise anyway

That's one of the issues with these generic cheapie chargers ie sometimes they work out fine but sometimes they can spectacularly fail too - so sometimes it just pays to get a more expensive brand name model that is more likely to last - but i still somehow just stick with the cheapies ..... i'm a cheapskate that way 🤷‍♂️ :ROFL:
