Hi.

I am looking at changing over to Genesis medical aid from Medihelp.

I am considering the top plan from Genesis, Private Comprehensive.

Please share your eperiences with Genesis as I have never had issues with Medihelp, but Genesis seems to offer much greater value for money and much better benefits for similar pricing.

Thanks

Never had any issues with them.

No perks, but you know you'll be covered when a bad event hits.

Thanks, how long have you been with Genesis?

Do you also have GAP cover?
Been with them since I earned money so from about 2014.

Beem to the dentist and had 1 hospital visit. Generally I'm healthy.

I don't have gap cover (I should get gap cover).

not necessarily - they are the worst payers for "dread diseases" so you won't get the medicine you need

alternatively don't get cancer or any rare disease with specialised treatment

Hi.

Thanks.

Please elaborate a bit, from the brochure Oncology is covered.

What am I missing?

cancer is covered - yes

what is available in state facilities yes

You may need a "better newer" medicine which is not covered eg biologic therapy

Thanks,

So does most other medical aids cover better treatment options?

Sorry for the thread necro....

Is anyone here still with Genesis at this time? I'm contemplating moving to them from Discovery. Any comments on Genesis? Good/Bad/OK ?

Thanks :)

Only been with them a few months. No interaction/feedback so far.

Bump. Thinking of joining them too. Any updates on service, claims etc?

Also, need some Gap Cover recommendations (unless someone can point me in the direction of a thread for this?)

I have been with Genesis for about 6 years now, also moved from Discovery, myself and family.
I cant complain, but also did not have any major claims, only ever claimed for some routine dental work for kids.
No issues with service or claims, so far.

I would stay away from them. By looking at the amount of complaints on Hellopeter and some of their responses...they seem arrogant.

I have been with Bestmed for many years. Several hospital claims and never had any problems with them.

Have a look at their options - www.bestmed.co.za.

Sorry for the necro again, but came across Genesis this past month (never heard of them).
Anyone with a bad experience had difficulties with claims?

Havent used them but when I did my homework when deciding on a medical aid they had much less members than some of the big ones and their limits wasn't the same. I also had to jump through hoops to get details and documents on what they cover, compared to Discovery which has almost everything available on their website and fairly well documented. They also tried to discourage me from getting coverage with them for my mom due to her age, they said they would prefer for me to go with Discovery or Bonitas.

Not sure what the latest on them but Just do a comparison between the medical aids.

Mom in law is with Bonitas. They have covered all her stuff and she has been in and out of hospital for small to very big ops and hip replacements. Check the news. Bonitas has gone trash. .

My mom is with Momentum very basic hospital plan. She has been on and out of hospital as well as getting a blood transfusion. No issues.

We are with Discovery. They have covered minor operation at a day clinic and they covered all my doc visits. Basic hospital plan.

Will do a bit, thanks.

That "Comparison tool" got me all excited but will do some extra research before thinking Ill get better a deal and then it will bite me in the ass later on.

There's no 'good' medical aid, just go for the plan you can afford. In the end, they are all fleecing the public.

Been on Discovery Classic Smart for a while, but that monthly payment hurts a lot.

I do not have any chronic diseases and never visited a doctor for the past 10 years. I feel like I can benefit more from a different hospital plan cause I lose out from my current plan by not using the included benefits.

Will take the advice and see what else there is.
