Hi boys n girls
Do any of you by any chance have a contact at the GEPF for my mother? She is really struggling with the call centre.
It's been 6 months since my father died and she's still waiting on the pension. AFAIK 2 - 3 months is the norm?
For some reason they've transferred her file to their forensics department but nobody can give her an answer as to why and for how long.
Below is a letter she wrote them today. Please if anyone can assist I will be very grateful
Good day

When you read this letter, please bear in mind that I am not an unreasonable person. I understand that GEPF have many members, but 1 November it will be the 6th month that I won’t receive pension. I need this money to pay the estate costs.
On 30 May 2019, I personally handed in my application for widow pension of my late husband, at the GEPF offices in Cape Town. All documentation was in order.
On 14 August 2019, on request of GEPF, I paid back the pension [R10174.83} for June 2019, which was paid into my husband’s account.
Today,25 October, I found out from Absa that they closed my husband’s account and the balance of R 7495,85 was also send back to GEPF. Nobody informed me of this.
What is delay in receiving my widow pension? My husband was medically boarded 30 years ago!!! I cry while typing here. It is difficult to deal with the death of a beloved and now you also have to struggle to get the pension you are entitled to.
I phoned several times to query the delay in receiving my monthly pension. I send emails and talked to GEPF on Facebook messenger.
I came to the conclusion that you can just as well leave queries. You get the same answers time after time……….they are busy processing, the file is at Forensics, but we don’t know the reason. This is not only me. You can go to social media and you will see that most members have the same complaint.
My next step will be to refer my case to the Pension Funds Adjudicator.
I really hope this time I will receive a reasonable answer or even better, my pension!!
