German tourists robbed in KZN

Three German tourists, all reportedly in their 80s, were robbed by AK-47 wielding men while en route to catch a flight back home at the King Shaka International Airport in KwaZulu-Natal.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said he received a call from a passing motorist reporting an armed robbery in progress on the N2 at the Umdloti Beach offramp.

"Upon arrival, it was established that the two males and a female victim had left the scene to catch their flight. Their Uber driver claimed that he had picked up his clients from their hotel in Umhlanga and was on their way to the airport when they were boxed in by the occupants of a BMW and a VW Golf 7."

Is it just me or are tourists getting into more trouble lately?

Also...who robs 80 y/os with AK47s...a medium sized spoon would probably be sufficient

The Orcs take no chances. When are the tourists going to learn: South Africa is NOT safe, especially for the elderly.

It is a bit suspicious tho, 3 80-year old tourists?

What of value did they have with them that required such a show of force?
 
And seeing how uber was involved was there not a tip off that foreign tourists were being picked up and would be in x location at y time?
All seems pretty weird how they would randomly stop a moving car to rob them, what did they have that was so valuable?

Cash is still the dominant form of payment in Germany so wouldn't surprise me at all if they were casually carry mountains of cash

The same type of person that ties up and tortures/murders an 80-year old.

This sort of thing should not be a surprise.
 
Well is not like the Australians and other countries didn't warn these tourists!

Stay away from South-Africa!!! You will either get killed, robbed, abducted or all at once!

South-Africa is not save!

What's suspicious for me is they were on the way to the airport. Usually people are followed by robbers from the airport. So who's in on it? Maybe the place they were staying at?

yeah i think it is an inside doing, would not be surprised if it was the uber driver that was in on it (maybe carted them a couple of times on trips around town and made friends with them and noticed that they carried wods of cash with them).

Pure speculation though

Perhaps seen at an ATM/bank by the wrong types.
