Apparantly we are just outside of the 4gs Wooossshhh cheaper than vodacom 3g reception area (Boksburg North, Cnr Atlas and Commissioner street) I was recommended to try a poynting antenna. So my question is will it work and will it be stable. Our will I just get a better edge signal.....

There has been discussion that the antenna port on the speedstick is not active - don't know why not. But you could try capacitive coupling. Best is to go to Poynting, and ask them - they must have dealt with this issue. They could also test with your stick and an external antenna, and you could see for yourself if there is an improvement

Depending on how far out of the coverage you live it will work wonderfully. My experience shows that up to 7 km out of the area can still be fixed - remember that the antenna will be outside of the house (gain of a lot of db's) and directional as well as it will boost the signal by another 14 db's.

Has anyone bought and got good results with this antenna from Uniterm Direct?

Using the Poynting antenna can make all the difference in a dodgy signal area -- I'm dead in the water without it! But be warned that those generic USB stick couplers don't always work as intended. In two cases they actually degraded my signal. Ideally you want an actual physical connection between your antenna and your modem, though these days with most USB sticks that's not possible unless you are clever or adventurous enough to hack and solder....

I did not have luck with my poynting antenna and adapter (the one ColdComfort posted a link of). Also tried it on my Iburst, no difference as well.

Let it be noted, it wasn't mounted on the roof like it should have been, but since I didn't even see a small difference, I didn't want to go through all the trouble of mounting it.

Coldcomfort only posted a link to the adapter. What antenna did you try?

You should really have tried the roof. When we had Neotel (*shudder*), the directional antenna we got from poynting made all the difference, but had to be pointing at the tower and on a good position (i.e on the roof).

It looks like Poyting's medium gain (7.5 dBi) antenna... http://www.poyntingdirect.co.za/pLD...Antenna-for-3G-Cards-No-cable-no-adapter.aspx

Poynting's high gain (11 dBi) antenna...

Both Poyting antennas are more expensive than Uniterm... May be worthwhile to test it out. Have you tried phoning them?
