Do you have a console gaming system that needs a wireless connection because you are unwilling to have holes poked in the ceiling for cables to be pulled through? Have you been looking at the cost of the native devices for said console but just cannot see how those wireless devices are so incredibly expensive? Well, the answer is a little lateral thinking away. What you need is a device that can connect to the Ethernet port on your console but relay wireless traffic to it.

In comes the trusted old D-LINK DWL-2100AP. This little wireless access point can double as a client (as many other access points can also do nowadays) but gives you the bonus of not having to install crummy drivers on host machines or having to worry if the console can handle it because the only signal the console will get is a relayed wireless connection via Ethernet. What more do you need?

You will have to hook up the DWL-2100AP to a computer to switch it into client mode and to configure it for your wireless environment, but after that hooking it up and using web features on your console is easy.

Cost wise it saves you around R300 on for instance getting your Xbox 360 hooked up to the web. The Xbox 360 wireless card will set you back just under R900 if you are lucky. The DWL-2100AP will cost you around R300 less!

It does require its own power source but it still is a bargain considering the multiple applications you can use it for. You can even hook up your home entertainment computer in the living room to the web using this device and others like it. Let your imagination fly. The thing about the D-LINK DWL-2100AP is its simplicity. It is a really solid piece of networking kit easy to use and configure.

Have fun!
