Hi everyone,

I was just having a look at the GetRight web site, and saw that GetRight Pro(http://pro.getright.com/) can act as a proxy.

Can anyone tell me if that would mean that you could rout your P2P, game etc traffic through it and get the advantages or an unshaped port?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some insight into this product.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

Do you know if there is a program out there that can do that?

Thanks,
Ken

Probably not.

Because the proxy is on your local machine, it will still have to use the ports specified to connect.

If the proxy was outside the Telkom ADSL network, then you would be able to route that traffic through ports that aren't shaped...AFAIK

From the GetRight Pro Website:
Act as a Proxy Server let programs that auto-update or download data (such as virus scanner updates) take advantage of GetRight's resuming, dialing, etc.*

So the answer to your question is no - it will not help your shaped account. You need a proxy server on another network connected to a unshaped internet connection, and then connect to it from your machine with the standard unshaped ports. (eg HTTP) This proxy also need to be in South Africa (local) otherwise you will have problems with your 3GB cap.

problem is that if a proxy is on international network ... it will not help ....

If you have a local proxy which then in a non-telkom way gets to the USA then you can use it for better connections.

Ok, so let me see if I have this right.

GetRight is not going to help me in any way :D

But...

I have a server in the UK hosted with RackSpace. I could then create that as a proxy which I use for the applications that are shaped here. This would not however help with the cap. Only download speeds.

Am I on the right track?
