Getting a bike, WHICH ONE??? Please help

Was just on the net. Is fuel injection important? Whats the diff between that and a carb engine

Better throttle response, better torque at lower revs (where a carburettor doesn't atomise fuel as well) and much better fuel consumption.
Those Bajaj 100cc and 125cc fuel injected bikes get between 80 and 100km/litre (one up).

I would like to add to my advice.

You can buy 2 x Chinese scooters for the price of a "Good quality" one. By that time you will have hopefully gathered some sense, and saved for a bigger bike.
Think of the Chinese scooters as throw away. But i would recommend that what you choose can at least maintain 100km/h.

Another thing, tell them to take that c@ppy "offroad tires" off before you buy it, as a condition of sale.

So are you saying that a Chinese bike for 3 years is maybe not a bad way to learn to ride, and come to understand bikes and fixing them, cus thats all I will be doing? :D

and what tires are you referring to?

2-stroke needs more maintenance (oil) than 4-strokes.

Get something that'll reach 140 or 160, and has power in the low revs as well, just in case you need to get outta trouble quickly (crappy taxi on your ass, idiots doing turns and stunts infront of you etc.)

I would rather go for an older model, just check that parts are available. Rather something that was officially brought into the country by the dealers than grey imported.

Stay away from scooters unless its a old vespa, those rock
stay away from dirt/scrambler bikes unless you live on a farm

The Honda CBRs are really good and reliable.

Ok great... Now next newbie question... When you go to a dealer or owner what kind of questions do you ask and what do you ask to see, and look for in the bike??? As you can see i am very new to this.

Simplest solution is to befriend a biker and ask him/her to go with you when checking out the bike. There are so many little things that could be messed up. If you don't come right, register on http://forum.thinkbike.co.za and ask around there. There are some friendly and helpful chaps around who would be happy to assist you.

I would be super careful about that Aprilia, no fairing = accident/fall, can't think of something else. There's also a reason it's less than a third of the price of the new one. If the fairings were not that expensive it might have been worth a look.

Ok that sounds good... Looking seriously at the aprilia. Need to get in contact with the dealers and find out if they have parts for a 2001 model...

What is the major implications an accident has on a bike, if it has no structural damage to the chassis or engine?
What is the consequences of being dropped a lot
