Hi all

I'm managing the IT for a company, and I need to do some administration for the domain, but the person who has the passwords is being completely unresponsive to any emails or phone calls. I've emailed [email protected] and I'm waiting for a response, but that is just for the registration of the domain. The only information I could find for who the host for the site is is hostforweb.com (which I assume a web host in SA uses).

Any ideas on how I could get this domain back for my client?

Thanks
Dovi

I would try contact Hostforweb. Even if they don't host the website themselves, if it's hosted on their servers, they should be able to point you in the right direction. Is it a co.za domain? If so, the details of the registrant (even if its on a hostforweb server) should reflect in the WHOIS.

Cheers!

Thanks for your help, chopsky. I do know who the registrant is, but they refuse to acknowledge my contact - hence my problem! :(
Co.za responded, the problem is that's just getting ownership of the domain registration - I'll still need to get control of the hosting too! Let's see if hostforweb responds...

Once you've got ownership of the domain, that's most of the heavy lifting done. I'm fairly certain Hostforweb will respond. Nothing stopping you from changing hosts either ;-) Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Cheers!

I had to do this a few years back, it's a total pain.

Step one is checking the current WHOIS record. See who the primary registrant is (it should be the company owner).

Step two is filling in this form and sending it off.

That should be the end of it. Once you have regained control of the domain registration you can transfer the DNS part of the domain to any hosting provider you want.

Step three (if the person contests it): Phone up the companies lawyer and get them involved. If you don't have one PM me and I will give you the contact details for my lawyer. He likes to fight with "bad people/companies".
