Hi, I would like to get 2 smart plugs to control my fan and kettle. However both my devices use SA three pin plugs. And the smart plugs come with europlug attachment
Anyone know a way of getting a euro plug that I can replace plug with?(like you can buy standalone 3 pin plugs to which you would attCh green, brown & yellow wires)

1. I think its too expensive to buy a travel adapter and it will make it too bulky.
2. These are not kettle or clover connections, the cable coming from these items are not detachable
3. I do not have an engineering degree, I can however change a plug

Don't dare try wire up a kettle without a ground connection - someone might get killed. This rules out cheap plugs and travel adapters.

Also, what is the current rating for the smart plug? Check that your kettle doesn't use too much for it.

You can probably get a blank europlug with a ground from RS Components or Communica :)

1800 w for plug - kettle uses more, im starting to think that its a good thing i posted as may have burnt down the house.
The other option, but expensive and difficult to import

Vs finding a kettle that boils quicker

It's possible to find a high current smart relay, however, finding one in a compact "Wife Accepted" form factor that does not look too obtrusive is less likely.

For example, the Sonoff TH16 is a 16Amp relay that *might* be sufficient to handle 3kW (220V*16A = 3.5kW), but it is not pretty.

EDIT: I say *might* above, because the kettle may well draw more than 3kW, but also, you generally want to leave a good amount of "headroom" between the expected load, and the maximum's specified, to avoid problems.

You could get it from Amazon.de.
This one, is rated at 16A, and it ships to SA.
There are a few options, but not all ship to SA.
