My friend bought me a Galaxy S3 in the US. He is planning on bringing it down in December. Will it work on local networks? Also, if something goes wrong with it in the future, can I take it to Samsung SA to fix?

As long as it is unlocked. Most phones sold in the US and tied to networks (Verizon, etc). You can try Samsung but you should have the store invoice

It is also my understanding, I speak under correction, that they have the dual core S3 in the States. So be make sure that it is, in fact, the quad core version -if that is what you're looking for. :) (Just a heads-up)

best idea. order the one you want (quad core unlocked) from amazon, newegg or something and get it delivered to him.
