Getting a smartphone contract - How MTN decides

An MTN customer recently told MyBroadband they had been denied a smartphone contract through MTN’s online application process despite being financially capable of paying for the device.

So were they already a customer?

That aside, vote with your wallet - tell them to Fusk off and move on .....

I've never seen contracts so cheap. It's usually break even or they'll be selling at a loss. Likely you're discounting the contract cost from the phone cost, but it doesn't cost them anything to provide that anyway.

He must be thinking about back in the day, pre-2013 at least. Back in the days one got some really amazing deals on some phones at times.

They declined my application for a phone that would have cost me 269 (7000 cash) a month and called me months later to offer me a contract for a phone that cost 2500 cash but paying over 600 monthly or a sim only deal that would cost me over 300 monthly when i asked for the sony xperia they said i couldn't afford it (269) - it's easier to get a car loan than a cellphone contract

If you are willing to stick with the network provider for 2 years it is close to 70% cheaper to get the phone on contract that to buy out straight.
Do you know of specific examples, please, and if so could you please link to some that illustrate what you mean? Or could you please explain it here, with hypothetical numbers? Thank you.
