Getting ADSL, must order phone 1st

I want ADSL
I have no phone line

It is very likely that I fall outside the minimum radius from the exchange, required for ADSL.

I would naturally like to test for this possibility before I order the prerequisite telephone line.

Telkom are so useless that they have no process to cater for this instance. Standard responses are "you must just order a phone" or "we might charge you to test that"....

*Still happy with Iburst* (except for the latency when playing online shooters)

Strange, I just went to local Telkom shop and they even told me the maximum speed I could get before I even applied for a line.

Yh i researched all the standard criteria, but I need them to figure out whether my house is within the minimum radius in Kilometres from the Telephone Exchange. This is an ADSL criterion, but to get ADSL I need a telephone line.
