So a colleague's passenger window has stopped working out of the blue, midway down.

Anybody know if there's a DIY way of getting the window closed manually? He left the car at home and came in by bus today because he usually parks in the street outside our office.

Its an old Camry and he's planning on getting rid of it in the next few weeks anyway so doesn't want to spend money on fixing it - just inform the buyer about the window and walk away.

I thought I'd pop on here and see if anybody has any ideas?

Is he by any chance going to replace it with an Etios soon.....

i read that you remove the battery for about 20mins ..and boom i did that and it worked

First have a look at the fuses, then the switch, if all else fails open it up, use a multimeter to check the motor, if its fine trance the problem elswhere then in the meantime disconnect it and push it up and reconnect it so it doesn't fall down

I see what you did there :p

I'm not sure, he just told me the car is beginning to show its age - its a 1996 model, so 22 years old

Lolz:crylaugh: it seemed too coincidental. Nonsense, that car is showing it's age because it's just been run in:D

try that. apparently it resets the sensors

Cheers, I'll tell him

My wife nissans been at the dealers (note the plural use) a few times. After 6 months it quits again. After accidentally winding down i found the following tricks work haphazardly:
1. Switch - press down and then immediately up. Dont take your finger off. I.e release the "pressure". Im not sire if I am explaining it right.
2. Use the driver and the door switch at the same time. Need two people.
3. Switch car off for 10 minutes and retry steps 1 & 2
4. Disconnect the battery. Only did this the first time before discovering the above steps 1&2.
5. Keep the switch lock on. Prevents the electric windows being used.
