Getting an esim on prepaid?

Hi is it possible to get an esim on a prepaid number? I have a new phone and want to convert to an esim so I can use the SIM slot for Capitec data. The process has been going on since Sunday 9th. You have to go to a Vodacom shop to do it. The first shop on Sunday said the SIM swap system was down. On Monday got the slip with a QR code from another shop and was told to do this at home.
That didn't work and eventually got through to the call centre and was told to go back to the shop and not leave until the swap was done. They tried even with a fresh slip and it was rejected twice because I couldn't remember when I got the number or when and how much the last topup was. I was advised not to try a third time because if I got it wrong my number would be blocked. So then I eventually emailed the CEO and hot a call Froman assistant who told me to go back to the store and he would walk them through this. After trying this and answering the questions was told it wasn't going through.

Does anyone have a solution to this? Or is the best bet to port the number to Capitec and just use their Sim?

Does Vodacom purposely make an esim swap on prepaid impossible? The store said it is easy on a contract sim.

Anyone managed this?

Telkom Mobile prepaid does e-sim, I did mine in a store and ported a Vodacom number to an e-sim as well.

Painless and done in 24 hours, I applied at 9am in the morning.

Finally got a message that my Vodacom sim was not working and was then able to activate the esim. Vodacom processes make government dealings look slick.
