Hi,

Is it possible to set this up?

What's required? Decoder, smart card and LNB(what does that stand for?)
Can another dish be used or does it have to be one from multichoice?

Needs to be done in Salalah, Oman in the Gulf.

I know people who have done it from India so its possible, you just get the DSTV Africa package, its slightly different.

You need to give a billing address in Africa, not RSA. Any dish will do, you just need to get the alignment right, some one else might be able to help you out. The LNB is just the thing at the end of the dish.

Not possible anymore. They will be switching off the Intelsat 10 C-band feed. Eutelsat W7, which now cover most of Africa, does not cover the Middle East.

you wont get all the same channels you get in south africa, eg you probably will get mnet west and or mnet east, not the same mnet we get in sa.
supersport the same you will get most of the channles.
there are guys in oman that install, so you will need to check with people curently living there (actualy most of the midle east) of course its not exactly legal, :) so no subscription as dstv does not have a licence to operate there, so you get what they call satelite over flow. of course you will also get tons of other european and american as well as other countries stuff at no extra cost.

shop around you will need a dish. a dream box ( i believe the latest one has pvr functionality) and a decent internet conection and the installer to sort you out. ypu will probaly get all from the same installer

Isie. It is not possible anymore. No satellite with MC transponders covers that area now that Intelsat 10 C-band is being switched off on the 31 of May. I heard that some people in Madrid are seeing the Eutelsat W7 transmission, even though the footprint does not seem to cover North Africa and Europe. There is a very slim chance that he will... maybe, see the W7 Ku band transmission.

basically what the middle east gets is 'overflow' from north africa, my dad that side of the world and would die without his south african rugby (yep and indian man who loves rugby) so far he gets the multi choice feeds no problems, if i get a call from him on 01 june that his chanels are gone ill tell yuo guys :)

yep the dreambox decrypts the signal so it goes every now and again on the net to get new decryption codes, as well as it updates is own firmware.

I asume you moving there for a job, if they puting you up in a flat they will probaly have a net conection

OIC. It's for somebody else. Wanna get them the hardware before they leave back from holiday.

Will be appreciated. But they are leaving next week. Don't want them to waste money if it aint gonna work after May.

tell em to look for expat neighbours not the local arabs, go to the electronic shops where the asians work (indian, pakistani, malaysians etc) they will know who does the satelite stuff,
trust me these if you look at the roof of buildings in the middle east countries all u see is satelite dishes and air con units :)

yeah I know, lived there for a bit. got a pic somewhere too of a rooftop.

Mnet is no more!!!!!, satellite switched off last night......

What we gonna do now??

Check the alternate satellites... the advert I saw said that they were moving to other ones.

W7 Ku-Band does not cover nearly as much area as the old IS10 C-Band, so for a lot of people DStv is a thing of the past (this is normally in areas where it should not have been available in the first place).
